The car was not called, "Little Bastard," that was a nickname given to James Dean by Jack Warner. After filming on, "East of Eden," was completed Dean refused to move out of his office/dressing room, at the studio. Warner started referring to him as, "The Little Bastard." Dean called driving mentor, Bill Hickman, the "Big Bastard." Dean's car also had red stripes on the rear fender arches, the number and the "Little Bastard" script was put on by custom car builder, Dean Jefferies, regardless of what egomaniac George Barris has said.
